Electronic Studio Resources I is an introduction to the computer music studio, designed for people with some academic background in music composition. We explore the widely varied sonic possibilities electronic media offer for composers, by means of technical instruction, encounters with representative contemporary pieces, and a series of creative projects, culminating in a 4-6 minute 5.1 surround-sound fixed-media composition. Technical topics include acoustics, the use of microphones and mixers, digital audio theory, non-linear recording and editing, MIDI sequencing, sampling, and classic analog synthesis concepts.

There is one group class on Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., with Prof. Gibson. Tutorial sessions of 3 people meet with Prof. Wang. We schedule these 50-minute sessions during the first group meeting. Registration is by permission of the instructor.
