Modulation App

Interactive Application: Modulation

This application covers subaudio-rate frequency, amplitude, and filter modulation.

Download the application as a .zip archive, and uncompress it if necessary. It will probably be in your Downloads folder. You can run it from anywhere.

Version for Mac

Download the Mac version.

When you first launch this, you will see an alert warning you that the application was downloaded from the Internet. Just press okay.

If you launch the app and see only its menu bar, but not its window, then quit the app and make sure the app name is the original one: “Modulation”. (The name can change if you download more than one copy of the app into the Downloads folder.)

Version for Windows

Download the Windows version.

This app has issues:

  • To launch the app, open its folder, and double-click the first file that has the app’s name. This file has a colorful circular icon. For the Acoustics 1 app, it looks like this in Windows Explorer.

Launching the Acoustics 1 app on a Windows computer

  • To quit, use File > Exit, because the window close box does not work.
  • The app may hang when you try to exit. Probably you won’t notice this, but the app will be lurking invisibly, and you will not be able to launch it again, unless you restart the computer.

To kill the zombie app without restarting the computer, right-click on the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen, and choose Start Task Manager. Click the Processes tab at the top of the Task Manager window. In the process list, look for the name of the program in question (e.g., “Acoustics 1.exe”). Click on this name to select it, then press the End Process button (lower right corner of the window), and confirm it. Be careful in the Task Manager: you can kill processes that you really shouldn’t.
