This is a project-oriented course that explores the expressive and technical aspects of making music with a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Develop skills in Ableton Live using virtual synthesizers, samplers, sequencing, MIDI, audio editing and processing, and mixing. Course work includes a series of creative projects. This course is appropriate for those with little or no experience with electronic music and also is useful for more advanced students.
Prerequisites: a basic understanding of rhythmic notation, and some previous experience making music (playing an instrument, singing in a choir, writing songs, etc.). Students without any experience creating music may find some aspects of the course difficult.
The course is normally offered in the fall and spring semesters. It is 3 credit hours. Classes meet in room SM 373 in the Music Library, which holds enough equipment for each student to have hands-on experience during class.
